Cam Brown: Leading Naperville North with Dedication and Passion

Senior defender Cam Brown recently made his first varsity start for Naperville North, carrying not only an enhanced role but also deep gratitude for the chance to play under coach Jim Konrad. ‘Being on the field and wearing this jersey where many great players have been is a true honor,’ Brown stated. ‘There’s a legacy to uphold, and wearing it with pride is important to me.’

Brown is guiding younger teammates as they aim to defend their Class 3A state championship. Committed to Wisconsin-Platteville, Brown was chosen as a captain by teammates, only a few of whom have varsity experience. Coach Konrad noted, ‘His leadership, both vocal and through his work ethic, sets a positive example.’ Brown’s influence was clear in a 1-1 draw against West Chicago, where he led a defense of mostly first-time varsity players.

Junior goalkeeper Misael Gonzalez praised Brown as among the Huskies’ best. ‘He keeps us organized and is a great communicator,’ Gonzalez said, adding that Brown’s dedication off the field makes him even more commendable. ‘He approaches each play with intensity and commitment.’

The Huskies’ efforts in a tough 3-2 penalty kick victory over St. Laurence during the 2025 championship are standout moments for Brown. Reflecting on that game, Brown said, ‘The conditions were harsh, but playing in such crucial moments with my team was a dream.’

For his senior year, Brown is embracing his leadership role. ‘I reached out to former captains for guidance to lead effectively,’ he explained. The team’s motto, ‘Nothing without work,’ resonates with Brown, who took inspiration from New Zealand’s All Blacks rugby team principles. Coach Konrad remarked, ‘Cam does all the little things right, setting a powerful example for his teammates.’

Brown finds a meaningful role in leading from the back but making a significant impact for his team. ‘Being a captain fits me well, and it’s an honor to continue the program’s legacy,’ he expressed, recognizing the responsibility and potential of his position.
