Confrontation at Wintrust Arena
Chicago Sky team owner Michael Alter announced on Tuesday that Enes Kanter Freedom is barred from Wintrust Arena following an altercation with Chicago Sky player Natasha Cloud. The incident took place during the game between the Chicago Sky and the Indiana Fever on August 23, 2026.
Alter’s comments, shared in an address to beat writers, revealed concerns about Freedom’s behavior. “He has demonstrated to us, unequivocally, that he has the potential to be a threat,” Alter stated in a report via ESPN.
Details of the Incident
The altercation occurred during the third quarter of the game when Cloud scored a point, prompting a timeout. She directed her emotions towards Freedom, who was seated near the basket. Freedom stood and approached Cloud, leading to security and Sky players getting involved. Subsequently, Freedom was escorted out of the arena and did not return.
Freedom recounted the situation in an interview with OutKick, explaining that he had been celebrating a shot by Sophie Cunningham. He mentioned that Cloud accused him of inappropriate intentions. Freedom insisted he was supporting women and denied any ulterior motives.
Tensions and Reactions
Freedom wore a shirt that described the definition of a woman, believing it contributed to Cloud’s reaction. “I was cheering for my friend Sophie,” Freedom explained, “And then, Natasha came back and made comments that shocked me. I believe my shirt triggered her reaction towards me.”
Alter described Freedom’s actions as “chirping” at Cloud, characterizing it as trash talking. This interaction was sufficient to engage Cloud and provoked a response.
Cloud refrained from speaking at the postgame media availability but posted a supportive message for the transgender community online, emphasizing protection and acceptance.
Freedom’s WNBA Ambitions
This was Freedom’s first WNBA game following his announcement of intentions to join the league. Upon entering the arena, he faced backlash from WNBA fans.
Despite the incident, Freedom remains committed to pursuing entry into the WNBA Draft.
