U.S. Prepares Major Economic Actions Against Iran

In a powerful statement on upcoming strategies, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described future U.S. economic actions against Iran as an ‘economic D-Day.’ He called it ‘the single greatest financial offensive’ ever directed at an adversary.

Writing for the Financial Times, Bessent urged countries not to support Iran financially. He warned that those who do so ‘should expect to share in its isolation.’ Bessent emphasized, ‘To become a sanctuary for terror is to become, in the eyes of the United States, a global pariah.’

“The president has created the conditions to leverage every agency, every authority and action many assumed we would never summon,” Bessent noted during a Cabinet meeting.

Bessent remained silent on the precise economic measures the U.S. plans to implement. He is scheduled to address the press later today. Last week, President Trump mentioned the potential for ‘Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale,’ likening the actions to ‘economic D-Day.’

The U.S. has already imposed strict sanctions on Iran. Targeting nations engaging in commerce with Iran could also affect China, a key trading partner for both Iran and the U.S. This is especially significant as China’s President Xi Jinping is set to visit the U.S. next month.
