DeChambeau Faces Tensions at LIV Golf Finale

Bryson DeChambeau appears tense ahead of the LIV Golf season finale in Indianapolis. The future of LIV Golf beyond 2026 remains uncertain after the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced in April that it will stop funding the circuit at the season’s end. This uncertainty is coupled with a reduction in the individual purse for LIV Indianapolis, now decreased from $20 million to $10.1 million.

DeChambeau, a key figure in LIV Golf, seems frustrated with these developments. His reaction included a jest at media members observing him at the driving range. During the event at The Club at Chatham Hills, DeChambeau greeted reporters with, “Oooh the mafia has arrived. The mafia. You guys love talking s–t,” as reported by Sean Zak of Golf.com. Despite his “mostly joking” demeanor, the situation grew awkward the next day.

Ryan French, known for the Monday Q Info account on X, experienced an uncomfortable moment when a team member of DeChambeau asked him to vacate the driving range. Brandon Reef remarked that French was merely observing DeChambeau practice. Following this incident, and its viral reach on social media, French received a personal call from DeChambeau.

Bryson gave me a call this afternoon, and we spoke for about 20 minutes. While the conversation will remain off the record, I really appreciate him calling. A lot of players wouldn’t have done that.

As the LIV Golf concludes its 2026 season, another match—the LIV Team Championship in Michigan—has been canceled. DeChambeau, age 32, enters the week following a T-38 finish at LIV New York and a challenging major season, having missed the cut in three of four tournaments.
