Psychologist Testifies on Lindsay Clancy’s Mental Health in Murder Trial

During Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial, a psychologist shared that she claimed to hear a ‘male voice’ instructing her to harm her children. Clancy, 36, faces charges for the murder of her three children—Cora, Dawson, and Callan—all under six years old, found strangled in their Duxbury home in 2023.

The prosecution concluded its arguments on Monday morning, and Clancy’s defense lawyer argued she experienced postpartum psychosis at the time of the incidents. Dr. Paul Zeizel, a clinical and forensic psychologist, provided testimony, explaining that Clancy had communicated to her then-husband, Patrick, about hearing a voice commanding her actions.

Lindsay Clancy listened to the testimony on Monday, August 10, 2026. Dr. Zeizel recounted that Clancy had expressed love for Patrick but conveyed that a male voice insisted she had no choice but to harm her children and then herself.

Kulac’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, questioned whether Clancy fabricated her symptoms. Zeizel remarked that Clancy displayed no signs of deception, noting, “She was not faking. There was no evidence of any malingering. She presented as an honest citizen.” Zeizel had visited Clancy in the hospital after the children’s deaths, following a court order obtained by Reddington, allowing him to speak with her.

In court, Reddington asked Zeizel why he allowed Clancy to use his phone. Zeizel responded, “I let her call her husband out of human compassion.”

Additionally, Lindsay’s former mother-in-law, Susan Clancy, testified on Tuesday, expressing her concerns about Lindsay’s mental health during the 2022 holiday season, while also describing her as a “wonderful mother.” Susan Clancy recalled, “Lindsay was struggling. We were all very concerned. She was very nurturing, very loving.” She added, “She was begging for help.”

The defense continued its presentation on Wednesday morning, aiming to convince the jury that Lindsay Clancy was experiencing severe postpartum psychosis when the tragic events occurred.
