Chrissy Metz recently addressed the criticism surrounding her weight loss during her appearance on ‘The Tamsen Show’ podcast. The 45-year-old actress shared her decision to begin taking a GLP-1 medication and responded to those who comment on her body.
Metz noted, ‘It’s not that I don’t have people and naysayers and people who comment all kinds of stuff still to this day. Like I don’t know when people will stop doing that.’
She recounted a recent interaction with a distant relative who congratulated her on her weight management, acknowledging weight issues as a family concern. Although such comments from someone familiar do not sting as much, Metz finds the broader social commentary overwhelming.
‘It’s interesting what people say cause would they ever say it to you on the streets? Never,’ Metz remarked, illustrating her disbelief at the criticism she receives, which ranges from comments about her appearance to her weight loss decisions.
Metz, currently on Broadway in ‘& Juliet,’ embraces the criticisms she faces as a form of rebellion against societal pressures. She also explored the impact of GLP-1 medication on her health in an appearance on ‘Today,’ expressing how it helped alleviate persistent thoughts about food. Her father’s passing due to obesity-related complications motivated this change.
Metz mentioned that GLP-1 quieted the food noise in her mind, allowing her to understand that not everyone experiences such constant focus on food. Reflecting on her decision, she said, ‘I have to do something about it. And so, yeah…I feel better on the medication.’
In collaboration with Ro, a telehealth company offering various health solutions, Metz continues her journey of self-improvement and advocacy.
