A Costco employee in the Seattle area has been accused of intentionally ramming his car into a coworker’s motorcycle, resulting in the latter’s death. Reports suggest that the motive was anger and jealousy.

Authorities have charged 22-year-old Tyler Sorensen with second-degree murder following the incident that occurred on July 31 in Issaquah. The victim, 20-year-old Jonathon Langdon, was struck while riding his motorcycle.

According to court documents, Sorensen trailed Langdon from a Costco parking lot, then swerved into Langdon’s lane, hitting the motorcycle. Langdon was ejected from his bike and collided with a metal signpost, as described by authorities. Sorensen initially fled after the incident but returned roughly an hour later with a family member to talk to investigators.

The defendant, however, continued on his way without hesitation, only stopping to make sure his vehicle was okay to drive home.

This detail comes from an affidavit obtained by PEOPLE. Sorensen reportedly conveyed to investigators that he felt jealous upon witnessing Langdon hug a female coworker. Sorensen claimed this woman was his girlfriend, which she has denied. She mentioned having previously informed Sorensen that he was crossing boundaries.

Sorensen admitted to law enforcement that his behavior was “stupid” and that his intention was merely to “spook” Langdon, not to cause physical harm.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim as they process this tragic loss of life,” stated Issaquah Police Chief Steve Mylett.

The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has been contacted for further comments.
