President Donald Trump announced through a Truth Social post on Sunday that Will Scharf will soon take on the role of White House Counsel. Scharf, who currently serves as the assistant to the president and White House staff secretary, will officially assume the position on September 1. He replaces David Warrington, who Trump praised for his outstanding work and noted will be moving into the private sector.
Trump expressed confidence in Scharf’s abilities, highlighting his impressive tenure as White House Staff Secretary and previous role as Chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission. Trump further emphasized Scharf’s strong legal background, which includes representation in multiple cases, even before the Supreme Court, against what Trump described as the Biden Administration’s unfair actions.
“Will has done an amazing job in his current role and will continue to excel as he takes on this new position,” Trump commented. “Will is tough, strong, and smart, and he loves our country and respects the law.”
Will Scharf has an extensive resume that includes positions as a federal prosecutor and private practice attorney, alongside clerking for two federal appeals court judges. An alumnus of Princeton University and Harvard Law School, Scharf is recognized for his legal expertise.
As staff secretary, Scharf has been visible alongside Trump, frequently tasked with presenting documents for signing and detailing their significance. His transition to White House Counsel is supported by White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who expressed her congratulations on social media, noting that “there is so much winning ahead.”
Wiles also praised outgoing Counsel David Warrington for his service, highlighting achievements such as 24 Supreme Court victories and 54 judicial confirmations during his tenure.
Conservative commentator Josh Hammer, who recently collaborated with Scharf in founding “Jews Against Soros,” remarked that Trump’s decision to appoint Scharf is a major positive for the White House counsel’s office. Despite their lack of time to advance the Jews Against Soros initiative, Hammer pointed out their shared stance against criticism being labeled antisemitism, particularly regarding political donor George Soros.
