Initially playing as a backup for Austin Simmons at Ole Miss, Chambliss, a former quarterback at Division II Ferris State, took charge when Simmons was injured. His debut game against Arkansas on September 13 was impressive; he threw for 353 yards, delivering one touchdown in a thrilling 41-35 victory over the Razorbacks. Chambliss’s season saw him throwing for 3,937 yards with 22 touchdowns and only three interceptions. On the ground, he accumulated 527 yards and scored eight touchdowns, playing a key role in helping Ole Miss reach the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Former head coach Lane Kiffin received recognition for identifying and developing Chambliss after finding him in the transfer portal.

However, opinions differ within the SEC regarding the credit Kiffin should receive for Chambliss’s achievements. An SEC coach told ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg that Kiffin might be over-credited for Chambliss’s talents, stating, “He’s a dude. Lane probably gets too much credit for Trinidad.”

Chambliss’s abilities were further highlighted after Kiffin’s move to LSU. He delivered 362 yards and two touchdowns in the victory against Georgia during the CFP quarterfinal. In the semifinal against Miami, he logged 277 yards with one touchdown, although Ole Miss lost 31-27.

The upcoming match on September 19 between Kiffin’s LSU and Ole Miss will be a focal point. Kiffin is now challenged with nurturing Arizona State transfer Sam Leavitt. Should Leavitt achieve success akin to Chambliss, it may validate Kiffin’s reputation for cultivating quarterbacks.
