The shooting occurred at a residence in Saltillo, the capital of Coahuila state, during a dispute related to Eberle’s son. Reports indicate Eberle was at the home to gain custody of the child when an argument escalated. He allegedly fired shots, resulting in three fatalities and leaving the mother of the child critically injured.
The victims, as identified by La Razon de Mexico, include Ana Laura de León Morín, 44; Laura Jaquelín Morín de León, 22; and Emanuel Montero Gómez, 44. Eberle’s former partner, a 26-year-old woman and mother to his son, sustained serious injuries.
An arrest warrant, citing charges of femicide and aggravated homicide, was issued for Eberle, referred to as Chad N by officials. The Coahuila Attorney General’s Office mentioned the warrant on social media before Eberle was apprehended. Following the shooting, Eberle allegedly fled in a gray Chevrolet Silverado with his son.
Authorities, in collaboration with Newsweek, contacted the Coahuila Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Consulate in Mexico for comments regarding the incident.

Authorities tracked Eberle as he approached the U.S.-Mexico border. A social media post confirmed his custody status. He was arrested at International Bridge II in Piedras Negras, Mexico, connecting to Eagle Pass, Texas. The arrest occurred on the night of August 4 before Eberle could enter the U.S.
After his arrest, Eberle was transferred to the Saltillo Men’s Penitentiary by 9:59 p.m. on a Wednesday, where he remains while the case progresses. His son is under the care of PRONNIF, Mexico’s child protection agency. Attorney General Federico Fernández stated that Chad N was handed over to judicial authorities once the arrest warrant was fulfilled. Mexican authorities have also stayed in contact with the U.S. Consulate.
Who Is Chad Eberle?
Chad Eberle has been involved in Texas law enforcement for much of the last decade. He acquired his Texas peace officer license in January 2017, earning basic, intermediate, and advanced certifications. His records with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) also reflect military service, as reported by KTXS.
Eberle’s employment history includes several agencies across Texas, such as the Northside Independent School District Police Department, Bexar County Constable’s Office Precinct 2, Gregory Police Department, Lockney Police Department, Bangs Police Department, and Santa Anna Police Department.
He was employed at Northside ISD from August 2017 to January 2019. He later joined the Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, serving as a deputy constable for about a year. Newsweek reached out to the Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office for a statement.
Eberle began with the Santa Anna Police Department in November 2025 as an unpaid reserve officer, typically working one weekend monthly. Police Chief Ryan Tucker mentioned that Eberle was on personal leave during the alleged incidents, as reported by San Antonio Express News.
The City of Santa Anna released a statement acknowledging the situation concerning Reserve Officer Chad Eberle. They confirmed contact with the U.S. Consulate in Mexico and TCOLE in Texas. No further public comments will be offered due to the ongoing investigation.
