Extradition Request for Federal Officer Involved in Minneapolis Shooting

Christian Castro faces charges related to an assault on a Venezuelan immigrant in January. A prosecutor in Minnesota seeks extradition permission from Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

On August 6, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty formally addressed the situation. She requested that Governor Abbott authorize the transfer of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer Castro to Minnesota. This action would enable him to face second-degree assault charges in the state.

Moriarty emphasized in her letter that obtaining Abbott’s approval is the last necessary step to proceed with Castro’s extradition. This decision comes following an incident where Castro allegedly shot and injured the immigrant in Minneapolis.
