The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported a multistate salmonella outbreak connected to jalapeños served at Chipotle and other restaurants. The outbreak now affects 27 states. The jalapeños in question were distributed by Coast Citrus Distributors, a company based in California, after being imported from Mexico.
A total of 36 people have been hospitalized due to this outbreak. Fortunately, no deaths have been reported at this time.
Both Chipotle and Qdoba have taken precautionary measures by removing jalapeños from their menus. Chipotle made this decision on Tuesday. Qdoba took similar action on Wednesday.
The CDC has stated that these restaurant chains do not pose an ongoing risk because the contaminated jalapeños are no longer in service.
