President Donald Trump has extended an invitation to a teenage lifeguard, recognized nationwide for a daring rescue, to visit the White House for an official honor.

A video shared widely online, filmed by Scott Vander Dussen of Santa Cruz Now, shows 16-year-old lifeguard Ryder Williams saving a young boy from dangerous waters at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz, California. The child, ten years old, was carried nearly 15 yards offshore before Williams reached him, with the help of several other beachgoers. The entire rescue operation took slightly over two minutes.

Following the incident, President Trump invited Williams to the White House. “We’re bringing this heroic young man, along with his family and possibly the boy he saved, to the White House to award him a High Civilian Honor,” Trump announced on social media, praising Williams’ bravery.

Who is Ryder Williams?

Ryder was identified by his family to the California Post. His father, Shane Williams, expressed immense pride in his son, describing him as an “amazing kid.”

“He just wants to be a kid, work hard this summer, and serve and protect his community. He’s doing great. We’re overwhelmed,” his father shared. “I’m trying to protect him. I still see him as a little boy.”
