The Philadelphia 76ers have officially announced LeBron James as their newest team member. A photo of James’ blue No. 23 jersey hanging in a locker confirmed his spot on the roster. The two-year deal, worth $8 million on a veteran’s minimum, was publicized on Monday.

Mike Gansey, team president, emphasized James’ impact on the organization, calling him one of the greatest players ever. LeBron is the NBA’s career scoring leader and made the decision to join the 76ers after contemplating retirement. He mentioned on social media that it would be his ‘last decision.’ James said, ‘I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base.’

James, a four-time NBA champion, declared his time with the Los Angeles Lakers over after 23 seasons. However, he reversed this decision to join a Sixers team that has not advanced beyond the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs since 2001.

The Sixers’ roster already includes All-Star players like Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown. Team owner Josh Harris expressed excitement at seeing James play alongside them, aiming for a championship victory.

Last season, the Sixers recorded a 45-37 record but were swept by the New York Knicks in the second round of the playoffs. James brings an impressive resume, including 22-time All-Star selections, 21-time All-NBA selections, and four-time Most Valuable Player awards. At 41, James is determined to turn the 76ers into champions.

In the 2022 season, James averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game. His career averages include 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists over more than 1,600 games. James joined the NBA in 2003 and has played for Cleveland, Miami, and the Lakers, winning titles with each team.

This move reunites LeBron with Gansey, hired by the 76ers in May after the firing of Daryl Morey. James and Gansey share ties from their days as Ohio basketball stars. Gansey recalled James’ commitment, professionalism, and leadership, which have been evident since his high school days.
