Hasan Piker has found himself in the spotlight again. This time, he faces criticism for having a framed newspaper front page from the September 11, 2001, attacks displayed in his stream background. The newspaper, showing the iconic image of the Twin Towers under attack, was noticed by viewers during his July 13 stream.

Piker, no stranger to controversy, faced backlash in 2019 after saying during a stream that “America deserved 9/11.” Though he later clarified his statement as a critique of U.S. foreign policy, the comment continues to stir debate. He acknowledged needing more precise language.

At the convention, Piker criticized both Republican and Democratic parties, condemning Democrats for collaborating with what he labeled as ‘fascists.’ His speech criticized multiple policies, including funding ICE and supporting Israel.

The CDA Jewish Caucus labeled Piker antisemitic, highlighting concerns about his rhetoric. This sparked responses from organizations like the Anti-Defamation League, who criticized CDA’s decision to invite Piker.

Despite controversy, some Democrats see Piker as a connection to young, progressive voters. Figures like Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and activist Darializa Avila Chevalier have associated with him, weighing his influence against potential backlash.
