Mets’ AI Cheating Scandal: Failure Despite Technological Aid

The New York Mets faced a unique controversy when they reportedly used AI to assist in-game decisions through in-dugout iPads. Despite this technological aid, the team still languished at the bottom of the standings.

According to the New York Post, the Mets were among several MLB teams exploiting iPads for accessing programs beyond those permitted by MLB. Dan Martin of the Post mentioned that a custom tab allowed teams access to these additional programs, which will now be restricted.

The timeline and duration of the Mets’ use of this loophole remain unclear. It is uncertain whether former manager Carlos Mendoza, interim manager Andy Green, or both were involved in implementing AI-driven decisions.

The Mets’ strategy appeared flawed, whether due to incorrect prompts, faulty AI logic, inappropriate application of AI advice, or simply a weak roster that no amount of analysis could rescue.

Overall, the Mets’ season has been disappointing, failing to achieve more than just technological missteps.
