Bloodhound Assists in Capturing Suspect After 10-Hour Manhunt in Georgia

A 10-hour manhunt in Georgia ended Tuesday when a bloodhound aided deputies in capturing a “dangerous” suspect. The suspect allegedly shot the mother of his child and fled on foot.

The suspect, Darian Berry Sr., 46, is a convicted felon, Butts County Sheriff’s Office reported. The domestic dispute occurred Tuesday morning in Flovilla, about 50 miles south of Atlanta.

According to officials, Berry attempted to flee but could not outpace law enforcement or the bloodhounds that tracked him. A statement from the sheriff’s office emphasized the determination of both officers and the tracking dogs in apprehending Berry.

Upon responding to the initial reports of a domestic incident, deputies found Berry accused of attempting to confine his victim. He also faced charges related to arson and stalking.

When deputies arrived, Berry allegedly escaped on foot, believed to be armed with a handgun, leading to an extensive search. The community received a BOLO (“be on the lookout”) alert as the search intensified.

The Georgia Department of Corrections K-9 Unit’s bloodhound played a crucial role in locating Berry, who was apprehended by Tuesday evening.

Berry faces numerous charges, including aggravated assault, stalking, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Other charges include arson, battery, family violence, false imprisonment, and obstruction.
