“The View” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin criticized the Democratic Party’s handling of Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner’s vetting on Wednesday. Platner faces multiple scandals, including allegations of sexual abuse.

Co-host Sunny Hostin emphasized the importance of Platner withdrawing from the race to help Democrats gain control of the Senate. “The path to Dems taking the Senate, I think, always ran through Maine,” Griffin stated. She underlined that Maine was a crucial seat for Democrats to capture from Susan Collins, but the vetting process failed.

Despite this, Griffin pointed out that the Republican Party recently supported candidates like Ken Paxton, suggesting both parties sometimes overlook candidate issues. Griffin questioned the consultants involved with Platner, insinuating they were aware of his problems with women but chose to ignore them.

Whoopi Goldberg weighed in, claiming that people knew about Platner’s background but chose to support him regardless. She stated that individuals often vote for candidates despite knowing their flaws.

Goldberg and the other hosts agreed that both parties often overlook character in their vetting process. Hostin remarked that while Platner has been labeled a racist, homophobe, and antisemite, she would still support him due to the current political climate.

During a recent debate, Griffin questioned Hostin on whether she’d feel comfortable voting for Platner if she lived in Maine. Hostin reiterated her view that while Democrats fall in love with candidates, Republicans consistently support their party members.

All co-hosts agreed that, despite the new allegations, Platner should step down from the race.
