The campaign, initially met with enthusiasm, has become tarnished by serious allegations. Jenny Racicot has accused Platner of rape during a tumultuous two-year relationship. Racicot detailed the incident occurring in 2021, when Platner visited her house uninvited and allegedly assaulted her.

Her account finds credibility through corroboration from a subsequent partner and her therapist, alongside text messages issued as warnings in 2023.

Platner has publicly denied the accusation, addressing the media coverage’s impact on his political campaign in a social media post. Nonetheless, he acknowledges the harsh political reality and contemplates his next move.

“Regardless of the inaccuracy of the reporting, but mindful of the political reality it will inflict, we are taking the time to reflect on the best path forward,” Platner stated.
