Two British Royal Navy F-35 jets were dispatched to intercept a Russian maritime patrol aircraft over the Norwegian Sea. This action followed repeated approaches by the Russian aircraft towards a carrier strike group, according to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).
The aircraft, identified as a ‘Bear-F,’ is designed for long-range submarine hunting. It flew at a low altitude near HMS Prince of Wales and deployed multiple sonobuoys around the carrier, as confirmed by the MoD in a statement on X. The Ministry described the incident as ‘unsafe and unprofessional.’
The MoD further explained that two F-35 jets from HMS Prince of Wales intercepted and escorted the Russian aircraft until it exited the area.
This is an ongoing situation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
