Before Taylor Swift’s wedding celebration in Manhattan, Mayor Zohran Mamdani has shared his enthusiasm for her music more than people previously realized.

The celebration for Taylor Swift and her fiancé, Travis Kelce, is planned for Friday at Madison Square Garden.

Zohran Mamdani is notably the mayor of the largest city in the United States and a significant figure in the national progressive movement.

In private, however, he is a devoted fan of Taylor Swift’s music, known as a ‘Swiftie.’

For about a year, similar to many millennials, Mayor Mamdani, now 34, found himself captivated by Swift’s music. In 2021, his playlist featured a dozen songs by the singer-songwriter in his top 100 tracks.

The mayor’s office shared this previously little-known passion and playlist details with The New York Times. This came after an inquiry regarding his reference to one of Swift’s songs during a recent news conference. Mamdani had noted he would not be attending Swift’s wedding celebration at Madison Square Garden on Friday.

I wish them a lovely wedding,

he commented, mentioning Swift and Kelce.

I’ll listen to ‘Only the Young’ at home on my own.

The song ‘Only the Young,’ released in 2020, includes political themes and featured in the documentary ‘Miss Americana.’ Although the track is not widely known outside Swift’s dedicated fanbase, Mamdani is familiar with it. He highlighted this depth of fandom by referencing it at the news conference.
