President Trump Embarks on First Trip with New Air Force One

By July 1, 2026, President Donald Trump began his journey to North Dakota aboard the new Air Force One, a Boeing 747-8 luxury aircraft. This plane, valued at $400 million, was donated to the U.S. by the Qatari government last year. It replaces the older 747-2 model, which had served presidents for over three decades.

The Qatari-gifted plane will remain in use until the U.S. Air Force receives a new fleet of Boeing aircraft in 2028. During his visit to North Dakota, President Trump will participate in a train ride and a welcome ceremony celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Additionally, he will tour the Teddy Roosevelt Presidential Library.

Speaking at Joint Base Andrews, the president commented on the significance of his first flight aboard the new aircraft. He described it as “maybe the greatest commercial plane ever built.” Trump expressed his excitement, highlighting the plane’s advanced features and security upgrades. “They just completed it, they made it appropriate for a president,” he stated, acknowledging the complex additions implemented for security and functionality.

The president emphasized the affordability of the plane’s upgrades, mentioning that it cost taxpayers “very little” compared to alternative arrangements. He referred to the aircraft as “a gift from a country that’s treated us very well.” Trump noted the outdated condition of the prior plane, remarking that it seemed inappropriate next to the modern Boeing 747-8. “We’re really proud of this,” he added, affirming the pride the country shares in the aircraft.
