Vance Criticizes Birthright Citizenship Ruling

During an interview on ‘The Ingraham Angle’, Vice President JD Vance criticized the Supreme Court’s decision on birthright citizenship. He cautioned that the ruling might lead to increased misuse of the U.S. immigration system.

The Supreme Court’s decision opposed former President Donald Trump’s attempt to eliminate birthright citizenship. The Court found the Constitution ensures automatic citizenship for most children born on U.S. soil.

This is a very disappointing ruling from the Supreme Court. Of course, we respect it, but we also think that it was a major, major mistake.

Vance expressed that the ruling could encourage people to travel to the U.S. temporarily to have children who would automatically gain citizenship. He described the decision as unreasonable.

The court struck down Trump’s Executive Order 14160, stating it conflicted with the 14th Amendment which entitles birthright citizenship.

The ruling ensures citizenship for most U.S.-born children, irrespective of their parents’ immigration status. This aspect of the ruling was opposed by the Trump administration.

Vance identified a ‘silver lining’ in the decision, noting the narrow opinion of the court could indicate that the birthright citizenship concept is unstable.

A lot of legal experts expected this case to go the wrong direction by 7–2, or even 8–1.

He argued that the case outcome highlights the fragility of birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment.

For over 150 years, birthright citizenship has been a constitutional right. Vance, however, argues it rewards illegal immigration.

It’s fundamentally a loophole that now exists in our immigration system that rewards illegal aliens just because they have a baby in the United States while they’re in our country illegally.

Vance indicated that the administration is exploring various strategies to address the Supreme Court’s decision. Potential actions may involve U.S. territories like the Northern Mariana Islands.

Concerns were expressed by senior officials about China potentially engaging in ‘birth tourism’ in these territories. This would involve women coming to the islands to secure U.S. citizenship for their children.

We actually have an opportunity to reverse this decision, just as we reverse so many bad decisions throughout the generations.

Vance emphasized the importance of monitoring immigration more closely to ensure the ruling does not lead to misuse.
