Aspen Acres Fire Destroys Homes and Forces Evacuations in Colorado

The Aspen Acres Fire has wreaked havoc in southern Colorado, demolishing 55 homes in Custer County and over 100 structures in Pueblo County. As of Tuesday afternoon, the fire has expanded across 28,314 acres and remains uncontained. Authorities, including Pueblo County Sheriff David J. Lucero, are working diligently to slow its advance and protect homes.

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for Beulah, Rye, and San Isabel. Evacuees can seek shelter at the Pueblo County Parks and Recreation center, located at 1650 Cooper Place, Pueblo. On Tuesday, firefighting efforts included eight air tankers among aerial resources. The fire’s cause remains undetermined. One firefighter sustained injuries, but no additional injuries have been reported.

Zakary Bruce, a resident of Beulah, recounted the devastation he faced. I evacuated quickly as the fire surged. The next day, I learned from my neighbor that my property was entirely destroyed, Bruce shared. The house, land, car, guest cabin, and shop were all reduced, either by the fire or an exploding propane tank. He lamented, Several years of memories vanished within 30 minutes.

This wildfire is one of nine major fires burning across Colorado. Additionally, the Big Sheep Fire, located in Huerfano County, has consumed more than 1,100 acres, as reported by the governor’s office.
