J.T. Poston’s Struggles at the Travelers Championship

In the world of golf, even the best players face difficult moments. J.T. Poston experienced one at the Travelers Championship. Ranked 32nd in the Official World Golf Ranking, Poston had a challenging day on the course.

Everything started to unravel at the 13th hole. After two excellent shots that positioned him close to the green, Poston was set for a low score. Instead, he ended up with a score of 12, drastically affecting his tournament performance.

On the Course

Poston’s ordeal began positively. A perfect tee shot placed his ball in the middle of the fairway. However, his next shot landed in a greenside bunker. For professional golfers, this isn’t a nightmare due to their adept short game. A good bunker shot could lead to a birdie on this par-5 hole.

Poston’s troubles began with a short bunker shot, leaving him with a tricky chip. Professional players know that such situations can still result in a par with a precise chip. Yet, the problem escalated when his fourth stroke flew over the green, landing in water.

Struggle with Water Hazards

Attempting to recover, Poston dropped his ball three times because each stroke failed to keep it on the green. Finally, with his 10th stroke, he managed to position the ball for a putt.

“It’s not really rough, where you can kind of blast it out. It’s into the grain, but it looks like you can get enough golf ball on it, which is why I kept trying to hit a good chip,” Poston explained.

He considered putting the ball but decided against it due to potential speed issues.

The Fallout

With a final 76 on the day, Poston ended the event in 69th place. He continued to struggle on subsequent holes, including a double bogey on the 14th.

Meanwhile, the Travelers Championship shifted focus to a playoff on Monday. Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler tied at 21-under; Scheffler forced the playoff with a crucial putt.
