A stabbing occurred Tuesday morning in the bustling area of downtown Nantucket near the ferry docks, according to authorities. This location is popular during the summer as thousands visit the Massachusetts island.
Nantucket police reported that the incident took place at 10:23 a.m. on South Beach Street between Broad and Oak Streets. This area is close to the Steamship Authority ferry terminal, a significant point for incoming tourists.
The attacked individual received on-site medical attention before being transported by the Nantucket Fire Department to Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
This violent altercation occurred in one of the island’s most frequented areas, known for its substantial foot traffic.
Witness accounts described a verbal and physical dispute involving the driver of a Myles Reis garbage truck and the driver of a Sayles Seafood delivery truck.
Following the stabbing, the injured party sought help along “The Strip.” Employees from nearby businesses, including Stubby’s, assisted by attempting to control the bleeding until first responders arrived.
Authorities detained a second individual at the site. Details regarding the suspect’s identity remained undisclosed as of Tuesday evening, with an arraignment planned for Wednesday in Nantucket District Court.
Local police noted that the investigation is ongoing. No further information was available at the time.
