Cory Booker Criticizes Trump’s Iran Agreement

Senator Cory Booker, representing New Jersey, strongly criticized President Donald Trump’s recent memorandum of understanding with Iran. He labeled the agreement as an ‘abject surrender’ and declared Trump the ‘biggest loser’ on the global stage following the end of the conflict with Tehran. Booker emphasized that Trump should not receive credit for attempting to conclude a war that Democrats believe he mismanaged from the beginning.

They know that they’ve won this, and they know Donald Trump is perhaps, on the world stage right now, the biggest loser with egg on his face,

Booker stated this during an appearance on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press.’ He also expressed concern about reports from U.S. intelligence officials suggesting that Israel might try to undermine the new agreement. Addressing these reports, Booker remarked:

These are two failed world leaders, and yes, we should be very worried about both of these leaders continuing to upend any kind of viable pathway to peace in the Middle East.

He referred to Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, voicing his eagerness for their departure from the world stage.

Booker, who supported ending the conflict on eight occasions, criticized the memorandum of understanding for benefiting Iran while reducing U.S. options. He stated:

Let’s be clear. I do not support this deal that he made, which was an abject surrender.

Additionally, Booker refuted the notion of Trump being a skilled negotiator as Iran appears to gain considerable financial advantages through the deal.

It’s almost as if American dollars, American resources, are now going to be used to help rebuild Iran while we are continuing to carry the bill for it,

Booker remarked.

He accused Trump of surrendering U.S. leverage and failing to meet the initial objectives he aimed for at the conflict’s onset. According to Booker, global leaders perceive Trump as a threat.

What the world needs now is leadership, but from our Middle East allies to our NATO allies, I’m hearing over and over again, ‘Your president is a danger to the world.’

The conversation continued as NBC’s Garrett Haake played a clip of Democratic strategist James Carville, who suggested Trump deserves some acknowledgment for ceasing the conflict instead of escalating it. Booker dismissed Carville’s argument, comparing Trump’s actions to an arsonist getting praise for leaving a burning building.

That’s like giving somebody credit for literally an arsonist starting a fire and getting credit for running out of the burning building.

Booker further accused Congress, particularly Republicans, of enabling Trump during the war’s prosecution, but changing their stance after being dissatisfied with the final outcome.

I’m really sorry that congressional Republicans from the start of this war has allowed him to do everything he wanted to do, and now they’re crying foul because they don’t like the results. Shame on Congress.

In contrast, White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales commended the memorandum of understanding, stating it advances U.S. interests by ending hostilities, reopening the Strait of Hormuz to significantly lower energy prices, and requiring Iran to forgo its nuclear ambitions. Wales described the President’s achievements in negotiations and military operations as impressive, predicting strengthened American security for years ahead.
