Body of Missing Fitness Trainer Identified in South Carolina

The body found earlier this week in Lexington County, South Carolina, has been confirmed as that of missing fitness trainer Elena Katherine Moore, as announced by authorities on Friday.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office identified the body discovered on June 17 near Old Cherokee Road and Northlake Drive as Moore, aged 39. She had been reported missing after leaving a Planet Fitness gym in Lexington on June 11.

Moore’s body has been sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where a forensic autopsy is scheduled. The coroner’s office plans to release further details about Moore’s cause and manner of death by June 22.

The investigation into Moore’s death is ongoing, and officials have indicated that determining a final cause could take days or weeks.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is overseeing the investigation, which began at a new location after a tip led to the discovery of Moore’s body.

Moore was last observed leaving a Planet Fitness on June 11. Her disappearance became a point of concern when friends noted her unusual behavior and sporadic social media activity in the weeks before she vanished.

Prior to her disappearance, Moore expressed fear for her safety to a close friend, Sondra Campbell, on May 31.

Authorities emphasize the collaborative effort to solve the case, urging the public to contact SLED with any further information. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office also extended condolences to Moore’s family.
