Toronto Marlies Clinch Calder Cup Victory

The Toronto Marlies triumphed with a 4-3 victory over the Chicago Wolves in Game 5, securing the Calder Cup in the American Hockey League. Vinni Lettieri’s second-period power play goal played a pivotal role in the win on Friday night.

Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Jacob Quillan also contributed goals during the second period. Landon Sim added to the Marlies’ momentum by scoring late in the first period, reducing the Wolves’ earlier advantage to 2-1.

Artur Akhtyamov, who recorded 27 saves, was honored as the playoff MVP. His postseason statistics included a 15-7 record, a 2.22 goals-against average, and a .923 save percentage. This victory marked the Marlies’ second title win, their first since 2018.

Despite the loss, the Wolves put up a strong fight. Felix Unger Sörum had an impressive performance with two goals and an assist. Josiah Slavin also found the net, and goalkeeper Cayden Primeau made 19 saves. The Wolves, affiliated with the Carolina Hurricanes, had previously extended the series with a 4-3 overtime win.
