Berwyn Pride Walk Celebrates Inclusivity

The annual Pride Walk in Berwyn will occur on June 27, from noon to 2 p.m. It will start at James Boyce Irish Pub and end at East Avenue. The event, organized by Bungalo+ and supported by the Berwyn Development Corporation and the City of Berwyn, focuses on community engagement within the LGBTQ+ community. Attendees are invited to wear festive attire for a family-friendly gathering featuring local leaders and organizations.

“Berwyn is a city built on connection,” said Mayor Robert Lovero. “The Pride Walk celebrates that spirit, showing everyone is valued here.”

Local Students Achieve National Merit Scholar Titles

Seven local students have been named winners in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Each student will receive a $2,500 scholarship. Recipients include Rishikesh Joshi, Alexander Sjullie, Yazmin Crisostomo, Kathleen Krasnewich, Emmie Guo, Nathan Leonauskas, Grace Rhoten, and Maclane Zich. They were chosen from high school juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT. Overall, 6,700 students receive scholarships totaling nearly $24 million.

Oak Brook Resident Commissioned in U.S. Air Force

Skylar Parker from Oak Brook was recently commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force at Clemson University. Parker was one of 40 ROTC members sworn in, crossing to official service with the traditional Silver Dollar Salute.

Teen Volunteers Awarded Scholarships

The Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation awarded scholarships to Elmhurst teens Erin Horn, Sophyia Sendelbach, Teah Navarro, and Ariya Shah. These teens volunteer at the hospital and plan to pursue health-related careers. Scholarship funds are raised through community events and range from $2,500 to $4,000.

Darien Summer Concert Series Kicks Off

Darien’s summer concert series starts on June 25 with Fuze performing at Darien Community Park. These free concerts continue monthly, featuring bands like Dick Diamond & The Dusters and Heart to Heartbreaker. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations for the local food pantry.

Elmwood Park Hosts Trivia Night

Trivia enthusiasts are invited to participate in a trivia night at the Elmwood Park Public Library from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on June 30. Form or join teams to compete for prizes. For more information, contact 708-435-7645.

Author Events at Oak Park Bookstore

The Book Loft in Oak Park will host author Meg Waite Clayton on June 25 and David Ellis on June 30. Meg will discuss her book “Typewriter Beach,” while David will launch his newest release, “Keep Them Close.” Books will be available for signing.
