The rise of technology has brought children closer to screens. As a mother of three children engrossed in screens, the introduction of Australia’s social media ban for users under 16 was a relief. This prompted me to form a WhatsApp group named “Take Back Control” with other parents, aiming to implement our own social media restrictions. However, our efforts did not yield lasting results. Similarly, the broader initiative in Australia is facing hurdles.
As more countries such as Britain and Canada consider implementing their own restrictions, questions arise about the effectiveness of these regulations. Concerns about children’s social media usage continue to escalate globally.

Teenagers Find Ways Around Social Media Restrictions
Victoria Kim in Australia reports that passing laws to limit teenage access to social media is challenging. In the last six months, the Australian government’s efforts have hit hurdles familiar to many parents—keeping teenagers from something they are enthusiastic about is difficult.
Since December, Australia has been at the forefront of banning children under 16 from using some of the leading social media platforms. This move has been closely monitored by global governments, researchers, and particularly concerned parents. The potential impact of social media on young minds is increasingly under scrutiny. Numerous countries are contemplating similar measures, observing Australia’s progress.
