A previous healthcare worker attempted to sell confidential medical details of Princess Kate, connected to her abdominal surgery at a renowned private clinic frequented by the royal family, according to a statement from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

The individual was employed at the London Clinic during the reported breach, which emerged in March 2024 amid Kate’s secret cancer treatment.

On Wednesday, Britain’s privacy and data protection authority concluded its criminal investigation and released a statement on its website: “The ICO issued a formal caution to a now former healthcare professional from London regarding an offence under section 170(5) of the Data Protection Act 2018….”

The conduct involved the deliberate misuse of highly sensitive personal information and an offer to disclose it for financial gain, representing a clear breach of trust.

The ICO evaluates the available evidence and public interest in every criminal case. In this situation, they determined that a caution was the suitable and proportionate enforcement response.
