Tycen Proper, a 19-year-old from Ohio, faces charges of attempted murder of a federal officer and conspiracy against the United States. Federal authorities prevented an attack on Sunday’s UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House, court documents reveal.
Proper is among several detained in relation to the planned attack, targeting the White House event for the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.
An affidavit reviewed by Newsweek states that during questioning, Proper allegedly acknowledged planning with others a coordinated assault on the U.S. government at the UFC event. This event was scheduled on the White House lawn in Washington, D.C., on June 14, 2026.
“He admitted to having plans with associates for the attack,” the document elaborates.
Law enforcement interviewed Proper’s mother, who mentioned he had been engaging with an online group. This group, claiming to consist of ex-military members with Christian ties, expressed strongly religious and antigovernment ideas, according to the affidavit.
FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X on Tuesday that the threat became known on June 10. He confirmed that “multiple individuals are in custody, and the planned attacks were thwarted.”
Newsweek contacted a public defender assigned to Proper for comment, but responses are yet to be received.
The story is developing. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
