Sen. Hawley Calls for Investigation into Planned Parenthood Funding

Congress’ prohibition on allocating taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood is about to end. Sen. Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, is pushing for a probe into the alleged use of substantial taxpayer funds by the organization to promote transgender procedures.

In a letter initially shared with Fox News Digital, Hawley urged a close examination of approximately $1.5 billion in Medicare and Medicaid funding. He claims this money is directed to an organization that advocates for transgender treatments for minors. Fox News Digital did not receive a response from Planned Parenthood for comments on these claims.

Sen. Hawley expressed concerns over taxpayer funds potentially supporting sex changes for minors, labeling such an outcome as ‘unconscionable.’ During a session with the Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committees in July 2024, he asked the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services Administrator Mehmet Oz to initiate an investigation into the organization.

I urge you to direct your investigative efforts toward Planned Parenthood and its role in pushing transgender madness onto minor children, Hawley stated.

Last year, Republicans had prohibited federal tax dollars from being allocated to abortion providers through legislation advocated by President Donald Trump. However, this restriction is due to end on July 4.

Hawley attempted to extend the ban, proposing an amendment to sustain the prohibition on Medicaid funding for abortion providers until 2035. Although his efforts were unsuccessful earlier this year, his focus now lies in examining whether $1.5 billion was utilized to encourage minors toward gender-affirming medication or surgery.

He accused Planned Parenthood of taking advantage of ‘legal loopholes’ to provide gender transition drugs to minors without parental consent.

Hawley claimed the organization publicly promotes sex-change drugs and referrals for transgender surgeries. He cited a report showing a 40% increase in Planned Parenthood’s gender-affirming care provision year-over-year.

He emphasized a financial stream between 2019 and 2022, tracked by the Government Accountability Office and reported in November 2023. Despite this, the report did not prove the funds supported transgender surgeries or medications.

In other words, billions of taxpayer dollars have been taken from those in poverty and the elderly and given to Planned Parenthood, he said. Moreover, these funds apparently have been used to prop up Planned Parenthood’s provision of transgender procedures to children.
