The biographical film ‘Reagan,’ featuring Dennis Quaid as former President Ronald Reagan, is scheduled to return to theaters. This return coincides with America’s 250th birthday celebration and includes new scenes.
Deadline reports that plans are in place for limited screenings on July 4 across more than a dozen cities, followed by a broader release in September. This will extend to 600 theaters, featuring an additional 10 minutes of content not present in the original version.

The film’s initial release recorded a worldwide gross exceeding $30 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
Sean McNamara, the director, expressed his enthusiasm for the extended cut, noting, “One of the hardest things about directing a feature film is leaving behind incredible moments on the cutting room floor. I’m so happy to have some of my favorite scenes back in the film for audiences to experience them for the first time.”
Despite mixed critical reception, Dennis Quaid’s portrayal of Reagan highlighted parallels with Reagan’s own rise to power. Author Paul Kengor, whose books inspired the film, discussed the significant difference in scores on Rotten Tomatoes.
As of now, the film holds a low critics’ score of 17% but an audience score of 98%. Critics from The Boston Globe and The Washington Post have been notably harsh, labeling it as a ‘hagiography’ and calling it ‘worthless’ from a historical perspective.
Kengor likened the disparity in reviews to Reagan’s significant 1980 presidential win against President Jimmy Carter. “The disparity…reminds me of what happened in 1984 when Ronald Reagan won 49 out of 50 states,” Kengor said.
