Beastie Boys member Mike D is set to release his debut solo album, ‘Thank You,’ under his Mike D 5D project. The album is scheduled for release on August 28. This marks the first album by a member of the Beastie Boys since 2011’s ‘Hot Sauce Committee Part 2.’
According to a statement shared with Newsweek, ‘Thank You’ features twelve tracks of unique post-electronic sounds. The album promises to deliver an array of hypnotic hooks and inventive grooves, led by Mike D’s distinctive voice.
In addition to announcing the album, Mike D has also released a visualizer for one of the tracks, ‘True Colors,’ which is available for streaming now.
The recording of ‘Thank You’ began as ‘experimental recording sessions’ in Mike D’s home studio. The sessions initially involved his sons, Skyler and Davis, and later expanded to include more collaborators. The album’s artwork is created by Can Can Press, Thad Higa, and Charles Deroyan.
Mike D expressed excitement about the creative process behind ‘Thank You.’ He emphasized the joy of collaborating with people he loves, noting, ‘I hope it’s fun for others and not overly serious. We’re releasing this music into a world that often devalues art and empathy.’
This album is a significant contribution to the continuity of the Beastie Boys’ legacy, with Mike D involving his family in the project.
