Democratic Concerns Rise Over Platner Before Maine Senate Primary

The Democratic Party is experiencing growing concern regarding Graham Platner, the leading candidate in the upcoming Maine Senate primary. Recent reports have caused unease among politicians, officials, and strategists, all of whom are deciding how to address the new information about Platner’s previous behavior.

The New York Times published findings that some women who previously dated Platner described unsettling or intimidating conduct. One woman mentioned instances where Platner grabbed or yanked her and noted that he was aware of a tattoo on his chest that resembled Nazi imagery while they were dating. Other women who dated Platner stated they felt secure with him.

These revelations add to earlier controversies. These include a tattoo controversy, explicit messages Platner sent to women outside his marriage, and offensive online comments. This amplified scrutiny on Platner, an oyster farmer and political newcomer, raises Democratic worries over more potentially damaging reports.

Concerns spread among Democratic senators, with Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire stating the issues are ‘serious and deserve scrutiny.’ In contrast, some senators avoided discussing Platner or attempted to minimize the concerns.

Platner, expected to secure victory in the Democratic primary on Tuesday, confirmed on Thursday night that he will not withdraw. On MS NOW, he admitted to suboptimal behavior post-military service but denied physically harming his ex-girlfriend or knowledge of the tattoo’s Nazi resemblance, which he has since covered.
