YouTuber Jesse Ridgway and his wife publicly shared their decision to end a pregnancy after discovering their unborn child would be born with Down syndrome. The couple conveyed this decision through an emotional post, describing it as exceedingly difficult. Ridgway shared details in a post on X, explaining that the diagnosis forced them to confront a challenging choice following medical advice that their baby would likely have the genetic condition.
“This week, my wife and I made the difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy due to Trisomy 21,” Ridgway stated. “The choice was not made lightly. We appreciate all the personal stories you shared with us and the unconditional support we received from fans regardless of our decision.” Ridgway, known for his YouTube channel McJuggerNuggets with over 4 million followers, kept his audience informed throughout his wife Ashley’s pregnancy. He also posted a video sharing the diagnosis confirmation, showing his wife’s emotional reaction.

Ridgway acknowledged potential disappointment among his fans about the abortion decision but thanked those who offered support. “I know some of you may be disappointed to hear this,” Ridgway wrote. “We are devastated. This experience has been extremely traumatic for us, especially Ashley. She underwent the procedure earlier this week, and she is recovering. Thankfully, the process went smoothly, but emotionally we are exhausted.”
Ridgway cited statistics about Down syndrome, noting that half of babies with the condition have heart defects, 75% have hearing issues, and many face additional challenges such as impaired immune function, developmental disabilities, and shorter lifespans. “Sadly, the list is long. Down Syndrome isn’t a ‘blessing’ from a health perspective,” Ridgway commented.
The announcement sparked viral reactions on X, garnering both concern and opposition. House Speaker Mike Johnson addressed the issue in a post, emphasizing the inherent dignity and value of all individuals. Johnson wrote, “Our value is inherent because it is given to us by our Heavenly Father. The survival of a culture that allows influencers to dismiss the deliberate termination of a child is at risk.”

Abby Johnson, CEO of “And Then There Were None,” expressed her outrage in response to Ridgway’s post, criticizing him for what she perceived as a lack of remorse. Meanwhile, Babylon Bee’s Kyle Mann labeled him “evil.”
Mixed reactions followed the post, with some commenters sharing positive stories of individuals with Down syndrome, highlighting the advancements in medicine and personal fulfillment. However, the majority of feedback on YouTube and X conveyed anger and grief. Ridgway responded to critics by highlighting the intensity of negative backlash and the lack of public discourse surrounding such vulnerable experiences.
“The reason this blew up is simple: IT’S BECAUSE NOBODY TALKS ABOUT IT,” Ridgway explained. “I can’t blame people for not discussing these vulnerable experiences publicly due to the harsh backlash. I’ve seen death threats and hateful comments aimed at us for grieving the loss of our child and our decision.”
