Choosing an electric vehicle (EV) can be challenging. As electric SUVs gain popularity, two models stand out: the Tesla Model Y and the Toyota bZ. These vehicles offer the range and features many look for in an EV.
Range and Charging
The Toyota bZ, formerly known as the bZ4X, has been revamped for 2026. The new front-wheel-drive model can achieve up to 314 miles on a single charge, as verified by EPA estimates. Edmunds’ own tests recorded an impressive 331 miles.
The Tesla Model Y offers a range of models with the longest being the Premium Rear-Wheel Drive, which is estimated at 357 miles by the EPA. Although Edmunds has not tested this specific version, other Model Ys have met their EPA figures.
Both the bZ and Model Y perform similarly in charging at public fast-charging stations. They are capable of adding around 100 miles within 15 minutes. The Tesla holds an advantage with its extensive Supercharger network.

Driving Experience and Interior Space
The Tesla Model Y offers an engaging driving experience with rapid acceleration and a stable ride. Its interior is quiet, and the front seats are highly adjustable to enhance comfort on long journeys.
The updated bZ also shows improvements, providing brisk acceleration in both single- and dual-motor models. It surpassed the base Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive in Edmunds’ 0-to-60 mph testing, though the Model Y has the edge in cornering stability.
When it comes to space, the Model Y excels with greater rear legroom and more cargo capacity, benefiting families with larger child seats and more belongings.

Tesla’s infotainment system continues to impress with a straightforward interface, quick responsiveness, and advanced driver assistance features. Although it lacks Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the hands-free driving capability is a notable feature.
Toyota includes a 14.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, offering usability and connectivity. It has four fast-charging USB-C ports and a comprehensive suite of driver assistance features.
