A disagreement at a Jimmy John’s restaurant in St. Louis resulted in a 14-year-old girl being shot in the leg. A restaurant employee, identified as 27-year-old Adam White, now faces charges for allegedly firing at a vehicle with the teen inside, according to police and court records.
The incident occurred when the teenage girl was struck near the intersection of Vandeventer and Laclede avenues around 6 p.m. Saturday. She was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, as per the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s statement.
The shooting originated from an argument involving the girl’s mother and multiple people connected to the Jimmy John’s at the 3800 block of Laclede. Details of the mother’s involvement with the restaurant are still being investigated.
The girl’s mother’s boyfriend and the 14-year-old later arrived at the restaurant. The confrontation intensified, leading to the gunfire.
Court documents reveal White engaged in a verbal altercation with a former employee, which continued to the parking lot. Police stated that the former employee, her boyfriend, and her daughter entered a vehicle, during which time White allegedly fired multiple shots at its rear, hitting the girl in the left leg.
Investigators discovered ballistic damage on the vehicle’s trunk. White initially fled but returned later, where he was taken into custody. After Miranda rights were read, White reportedly admitted to shooting at the vehicle and revealed he had left the gun at home.
A judge has ordered White to be held without bond pending trial. Jimmy John’s and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department did not immediately respond to inquiries.
