President Donald Trump announced during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday that he intends to attend an NBA Finals game next week. This marks a significant event as the New York Knicks make their first Finals appearance in nearly three decades.
Jeremy Lin, a key player in the 2012 NBA season, sparked hope among New York Knicks fans during a period known as ‘Linsanity.’ Despite Lin, Carmelo Anthony, and Amar’e Stoudemire not securing a championship or an NBA Finals spot, the team’s revival was crucial in bringing back its relevance, a spotlight it hadn’t seen since 1999.
The current Knicks roster, spearheaded by Karl-Anthony Towns, Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and others, has successfully put New York back in the NBA Finals for the first time since the 1998-99 season, aiming for their first title since 1973.
Karl-Anthony Towns, originally from New Jersey, credited Jeremy Lin as the influencer of his Knicks fandom. He recalled how Lin’s dynamic performances impacted him during his high school years.
“Jeremy Lin really made me a Knicks fan,” Towns expressed, as quoted by the New York Post. “I was keen on getting his jersey during ‘Linsanity.’ Lin remains one of my favorite Knicks and players of all time.”
Towns conveyed deep admiration for Lin and emphasized how Lin cultivated his passion for the Knicks, which led to Lin recently mentioning him on social media.
“My parents nudged me towards the Knicks over the Brooklyn Nets,” Towns added. He now stands four wins away from potentially achieving New York legend status.
