Judge Orders Removal of Trump’s Name from Kennedy Center

A federal judge has issued a ruling that the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts must remove President Trump’s name from its facade and official branding. The decision temporarily prevents the center from closing for renovations this summer.

Judge Christopher R. Cooper of the Federal District Court in Washington emphasized that the center was named for former President John F. Kennedy by Congress, and only Congress can change it. His 94-page opinion states that the addition of Trump’s name violated the original law passed in 1964.

President Trump expressed his frustration through social media, suggesting he might abandon the center if he couldn’t determine its future direction. He criticized Judge Cooper’s decision, labeling it as influenced by the Radical Left, and argued for transforming the center into something praiseworthy.

The center’s board, mainly composed of Trump allies, had decided in December to include his name on the center’s marble facade, creating the name: “The Donald J. Trump and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.” This decision was quickly enacted with new lettering.

The judge ruled that the 18 letters added to the facade must be removed in two weeks.
