Jamal Crawford, a former NBA player with a 20-year career, is sharing something special this season as a color commentator for NBC Sports. He is collaborating with Mike Tirico and Reggie Miller, but he has kept a little secret from them.
Throughout the playoffs, Crawford is introducing a secret catchphrase that he has shared with no one. In a recent chat with NBC News, he revealed his plan without detailing the phrase. “You’re going to hear something about a court,” Crawford hinted.
His signature enthusiasm is no secret to fans. Crawford moved into media in 2021, initially with NBA League Pass, before joining TNT as a studio analyst in 2022. By 2024, he was calling select games for MSG Network with the New York Knicks. When the NBA returned to NBC, Crawford quickly became a lead analyst, forming a strong connection with Tirico and Miller.
“Reggie is a legend. I still learn and steal from him. Mike is the ultimate point guard, but he knows when to do his filay layup,” Crawford noted.
Crawford continues to stay involved with the sport through various roles. He narrates “Chasing History,” an NBA documentary, and consistently works with up-and-coming players. He even coaches AAU on the side. Embracing his work, Crawford reflects on legendary broadcasters like Marv Albert and Bob Costas, taking pride in being part of such a legacy.
This playoff season, Crawford is as much a fan as an analyst. “I’m a fan of the game in the purest sense,” he said. He’s thrilled to watch as the playoffs progress, particularly the Western Conference finals on NBC.
The potential of the New York Knicks reaching the NBA Finals intrigues him. Crawford, who played for the Knicks from 2004 to 2009, remembers the electricity of Knicks fans. “I couldn’t imagine what Finals is like in New York,” he added.
