Michael Douglas has addressed a long-standing rumor from his career. In his upcoming memoir, “One Helluva Ride,” the 82-year-old actor confirms an affair with Kathleen Turner during the filming of “Romancing the Stone.” Both actors had denied this for over 40 years.

Douglas described Turner as “smart, funny, and sexy,” noting her deep voice. He revealed an immediate attraction between them. At the time, Douglas was married to Diandra Luker, but their relationship was strained, with both engaging in extramarital affairs.

Kathleen was smart, funny, and sexy with a deep, sultry voice that became her signature.

Douglas shared that while filming the 1984 movie, he was “technically married but separated.” Despite public speculation of a romantic relationship during and after the film, Douglas and Turner consistently denied any involvement.

In his memoir, Douglas explains that their affair wasn’t fleeting. Their close work relationship and mutual respect led to a deep connection. They kept the affair secret, even from the film’s director, Bob Zemeckis, and co-star Danny DeVito.

He wrote about sneaking into Turner’s hotel room after filming. The lack of modern technology allowed them to maintain privacy. He equated their growing off-screen relationship to the love story of their onscreen characters, Jack and Joan.

The affair ended when Luker visited the set with their son, Cameron, reminding everyone of Douglas’s marriage. Kathleen Turner responded to the news, expressing affection for Douglas and anticipation for his memoir.

Following “Romancing the Stone,” Douglas and Turkey continued to maintain their professional partnership, working together on the sequel and later in “The Kominsky Method.” They both took steps to protect Cameron and Luker from public scrutiny.

In 1995, Diandra Luker filed for divorce from Douglas. The divorce was finalized in 2000, and he later married actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. Together, they have two children, Dylan and Carys.
