Trump Discusses Ukraine-Russia War and Peace Efforts

President Donald Trump revealed significant casualty figures in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. On Saturday, he reported that 25,000 individuals lost their lives last month, with the previous month seeing 32,000 fatalities, primarily soldiers. He expressed the gravity of the loss, regardless of whether the victims were soldiers or civilians.

Information from the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) shows Russia suffered losses of up to 450,000 soldiers since its 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The president talked to the media from the White House lawn.

Trump shared his hopes for a resolution to the war soon, mentioning recent conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump stated his desire for a peace agreement before the onset of severe winter conditions and encouraged Zelenskyy to reach an accord with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Emphasizing the importance of negotiation, Trump conveyed to Zelenskyy the necessity of making a deal. He also referenced a meeting between American negotiators, Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and Putin in Moscow aimed at promoting peace.

In a significant policy decision, Trump agreed to allow Ukraine to license and produce U.S. Patriot missile interceptors. Zelenskyy announced on Friday that Ukraine will now receive licenses for these missiles after Trump’s final decision was made. This move marks a major shift, as Trump had previously hesitated to grant such licenses.
