President Donald Trump’s decision to exclude several news outlets from the White House led to an unexpected issue on Monday. His speech at a televised ribbon-cutting ceremony was barely audible due to a boycott by major networks.
During the event, broadcast by Newsmax, Trump spoke at the inauguration of a new White House helipad. The absence of cameras and microphones, typically supplied by the White House TV press pool, meant his speech was inaudible.
“There’s no microphone because the pool cameras aren’t there,” a Newsmax presenter commented, suggesting this was an example of the situation backfiring.
Trump announced on Truth Social that he banned CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from covering the White House, citing their “reporting FAKE NEWS” as the reason.
On the day of the event, other major networks joined the protest by refusing to participate in pool duty.
Bryan Boughton, the Fox News Washington bureau chief and chair of the TV pool, confirmed in a memo to the press corps, “There will be no replacement pool put in place.” This memo was obtained by Politico.
This story is still developing. Further updates are expected.
