Christine Taylor’s Role as Marcia Brady: A Hollywood Journey

Christine Taylor achieved her dream by landing the role of Marcia Brady in “The Brady Bunch Movie.” However, the opportunity came with unexpected conditions. During a conversation on the “Office Ladies” podcast, Taylor shared details about an uncomfortable request she encountered after getting the role. She felt embarrassed yet accepted because such demands were common in Hollywood during that era.

Initially, Taylor had performed in a live show titled “The Real Live Brady Bunch.” Her fascination with Marcia Brady was longstanding, having watched every episode. She shared an incident where “The Brady Bunch” creator Sherwood Schwartz personally contacted her, expressing interest in meeting her. This Hollywood moment remained vivid in her memory, although she regretted not keeping the message tape.

Taylor had unwavering confidence in her ability to portray Marcia Brady. She recalled the casting process as straightforward. “I’m fairly sure that I met with them, and that was pretty much it,” she stated. During the process, she read alongside actors who would play her on-screen siblings, Jan and Cindy.

The role involved a request quite typical of the 90s industry. Taylor was asked to shed 10 pounds. Although she wasn’t overweight, this request felt like a standard job requirement. “Of course I was embarrassed,” she admitted. “But it would never happen today.” Taylor acknowledged that others had faced similar requests in the past.

Despite the pressure, Taylor enjoyed filming the movie. She humorously noted the visible weight fluctuations in the film due to reshoots. “. . . you can see it,” she humorously recalled about the scene inconsistencies.

After completing scenes, Taylor allowed herself some indulgences. She enjoyed nonfat frozen yogurt, a popular treat at the time, celebrating with her roommate. Thus, Taylor balanced the demands of her role with personal enjoyment.
