Israeli Ambassador Criticizes NYC Mayor Ahead of Netanyahu’s UN Visit

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon expressed criticisms of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to Fox News Digital. Danon accused the mayor of “sowing chaos” prior to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to the U.N. General Assembly.

Danon’s comments followed Mamdani’s call for New Yorkers to protest when Netanyahu speaks at the U.N. headquarters on September 24. “No one can ignore Mayor Mamdani,” Danon stated. “Instead of welcoming all world leaders and ensuring the city functions properly, he is doing the opposite.” Danon accused Mamdani of inciting disorder, which he believes will complicate life for New Yorkers and visitors alike. “The prime minister will come, will speak, and will represent our nation,” the ambassador confirmed.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani previously labeled Netanyahu as a “war criminal” and claimed responsibility for orchestrating “a horrific genocide against the Palestinian people.” During his campaign, Mamdani had vowed to have Netanyahu arrested, though he acknowledged his lack of authority to do so.

In a press conference on July 22, Mamdani emphasized the importance of protest in New York City, stating it as “one of the bedrocks”. He reaffirmed that New Yorkers can express themselves freely, in support or opposition, respecting the First Amendment.

On a related note, Netanyahu assured Fox News’s “Hannity” that he intends to “speak the truth” amid criticism from Mamdani, whom he accused of dividing New Yorkers. “I’m going to New York,” Netanyahu said, as he planned his visit.

Danon highlighted the ongoing struggle Israel faces. “We have been involved in a long war but now see opportunities ahead,” he commented. Danon stressed the importance of addressing threats in Gaza and emphasized the need for disarmament as outlined in the president’s plan. “Hamas cannot remain in power,” he warned.

Reflecting on Israel’s diplomatic achievements, Danon expressed pride. “Israel is often criticized, but we walk tall at the U.N., knowing our fight against threats such as Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas aids Western societies and democracies.”

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani spoke at a press conference in Manhattan Housing Court on August 25. Mamdani’s office did not immediately respond to inquiries from Fox News Digital regarding meeting Netanyahu during his visit.
