Jim Thornton, known for his role as the announcer on “Wheel of Fortune,” is facing suspension amidst recent allegations against him. Represented by his attorney, Thornton maintains he has engaged in no illegal conduct or criminal activity, as reported by TMZ.
A spokesman for Sony Pictures Television Studios stated that Thornton is being temporarily replaced while a detailed investigation is conducted regarding the allegations.
Thornton, serving as announcer since 2011, became embroiled in controversy related to an occurrence on an American Airlines flight in May. According to sources, a passenger’s complaint about his behavior prompted law enforcement involvement upon landing at Los Angeles International Airport.
American Airlines confirmed that Flight 1276 encountered law enforcement on arrival due to reported passenger concerns about Thornton. However, his attorney clarified that after brief questioning, authorities concluded no wrongdoing by Thornton, freeing him without further action.
Before his current role on “Wheel of Fortune,” Thornton succeeded Charlie O’Donnell following his passing in 2010. His career includes voice work on shows like “Celebrity Death Match,” “The Cleveland Show,” and Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.” He has also announced for popular game shows like “The Price is Right” and “Jeopardy!”
Thornton’s professional achievements feature prestigious accolades, including the Edward R. Murrow award and an Emmy.
