Fatal Shooting at Tucson LGBTQ Bar Raises Hate Crime Concerns

In the early hours of Monday morning, two men were fatally shot in the parking lot of Venture-N, a gay bar in Tucson, Arizona. Authorities are treating the incident as a possible hate crime. The shooting suspect, Ousman Ceesay, 44, also died shortly after the event.

Police have identified the victims as Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Ceesay was found with gunshot wounds and died later at a hospital. Police did not clarify if his injuries were self-inflicted.

The investigation revealed Mr. Ceesay carried a note listing several LGBTQ-friendly businesses, suggesting he may have planned to target these locations. This prompted authorities to increase patrols around LGBTQ venues throughout Tucson.

Public records show Mr. Ceesay was from Oklahoma City and had no significant criminal history, only a speeding ticket from 2012. In 2018, he filed for bankruptcy alongside his then-wife. Mr. Ceesay had briefly worked as an Uber and Lyft driver.

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero condemned the attack, describing it as a direct assault on the LGBTQ community. In a social media statement, she highlighted the persistence of homophobia nationwide. “This tragedy is another painful reminder that homophobia is still rampant in our country,” she said.
